An open folio, musical strophes combine to create larger musical gestures. Each strophe represents a different type of polyphony - at times coordinated synchronously with both hands, and at other times disparate, creating ever-changing textures defined by timbral identity and contour. While composing the work, I was striving for a musical surface that changes often, with spontaneous shifts in tempi, register, and timbre. Temporal fields articulate contrasting materials, creating a diverse rhythmic fabric with phrases that are very short, and others can be extended through repetition to create longer structures. The title comes from Hart Crane's poem, To Brooklyn Bridge, a source that has provided a lot of inspiration for several recent works. Crane's unique vernacular is inherently musical throughout, with many allusions always resonating within our musical dimensions. immaculate sigh of stars... emerges from a series of solo works that have occupied my recent work.
